WHEAT - Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (WHEAT) began in the early 1980’s when a number of churches in Western Hanover County recognized an opportunity to provide emergency assistance to families in need. Churches in Beaverdam, Montpelier, Rockville and Doswell are involved. Financial support is provided by area churches and organizations as well as individuals. The current organization provides financial support in emergency situations for medical needs, heating/cooling needs, and other crisis situations. WHEAT conducts an open food pantry on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 5 - 7 pm. The pantry is located at 15584 Coatesville Rd., Beaverdam. We are all working together to lend a hand in our community! Your support both financially and through volunteering are welcome. For more information, visit www.wheathelp.org.
WHEAT has been averaging 50-60 families each time the pantry is open. The 50-60 families represent approximately 150-200+ individuals including adults and children. It takes a lot of food to keep the pantry supplied. Our focus (for donations) at Beaverdam and Rouzie’s Chapel is canned fruit, pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please see Martha Flint 449-6480 or mwflint1@hughes.net.
