Friends, United in Christ, Nurturing Each Other and the World
Dear Church Family,
When I was in 2nd grade my teacher Mrs. Minnick taught us about how the month of March comes in like a lamb or lion and goes out as the opposite. We drew lambs, lions and a large cloud puffing out wind and made a bulletin board to remind us to watch the weather each day in March.
In 2018, we are blessed to spend the entire month experiencing Lent. Then as March draws to a close, we will seal the tomb and wait through Holy Saturday (between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday). It is as if spiritually March comes in like a lamb with the gentle austerity of settling into our Lenten journey and will end like a lion with the power of Jesus’ resurrection from death. The Lamb slain from the foundations of the world (Revelation 13:8) becomes the Lion of Judah in triumph over death. “In like a lamb and out like a lion” all while we devote ourselves to the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, scripture study and worship.
As we continue to journey during Lent with Jesus through His earthly ministry and then through the events of His Last Supper, betrayal, crucifixion and resurrection we remember. We remember that the one who created the winds, the lambs, the lions and all of the natural world, breathed life into us and made us living beings. Living beings in relationship with the God of the world … all because of our Sacrificed Lamb and our ruling Lion of Judah, Jesus the Christ.
No wonder that Friday outside Jerusalem is called GOOD!
     With transforming hope,
